재난과 기후 문제 해결을 위해 협력

(뉴욕 2011년 5월 14일 AsiaNet=연합뉴스) 6월 4일과 5일, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!, NASA, HP, World Bank는 Random Hacks of Kindness(RHoK)를 통해 전 세계 18여개 장소에서 수 천명과 협력하여 생명을 구하고 고통을 덜어줄 수 있는 오픈 솔루션을 개발할 것이다. Random Hacks of Kindness는 재난 위험 관리, 기후 변화 적응 문제를 위한 실용적인 오픈 소스 솔루션을 개발하는 데 주력하는 혁신 커뮤니티이다.

미국의 하트포드, 필라델피아, 아틀랜타, 시애틀과 실리콘 밸리, 캐나다 토론토, 덴마크 오르후스, 스위스 바젤, 독일 베를린, 인도 방갈로르, 아르헨티나 부에노스아이레스, 우간다 캄팔라, 잠비아 루사카, 호주 멜버른, 케냐 나이로비, 이탈리아 트렌토, 칠레 산티아고에서의 국제 이벤트 등 전 세계에서 이벤트를 개최할 계획이다.

과거 이벤트 동안 자원봉사자들은 어플리케이션 개발에 주력했으며 이는 벌써 영향력을 행사하고 있다. 가족에게 자신의 상태를 알릴 수 있는 SMS 서비스인 I'm OK가 2010년 아이티와 칠레에서 파괴적인 지진이 발생한 후 현지에서 사용되었다. World Bank는 카리브해 제도에서의 산사태 위험을 시각화하는 소프트웨어인 CHASM 개발을 추진하고 있다. 다른 애플리케이션도 전 세계 정부, NGO, 국제 기구로부터 지원과 관심을 받았다.

Volunteers and Experts Around the World Collaborate to Solve Disaster and Climate Problems Through Random Hacks of Kindness

(NEW YORK, May 13, 2011 AsiaNet=연합뉴스) On June 4th and 5th, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!, NASA, HP and the World Bank, through their initiative Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK), will bring together thousands of people in over 18 locations around the globe to create open solutions that can save lives and alleviate suffering. Random Hacks of Kindness is a community of innovation focused on developing practical open source solutions to disaster risk management and climate change adaptation challenges.

Events are planned around the globe, including Hartford, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle and Silicon Valley in the United States and international events in Toronto, Canada, Aarhus, Denmark, Basel, Switzerland, Berlin, Germany, Bangalore, India, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Kampala, Uganda, Lusaka, Zambia, Melbourne, Australia, Nairobi, Kenya, Trento, Italy, and Santiago, Chile.

During past events the volunteers have worked on applications that are already making an impact. I'm OK, an SMS service that lets people inform their families of their status, was used on the ground during the devastating earthquakes in Haiti and Chile in 2010. The World Bank is piloting CHASM, software for visualizing landslide risk, in the Caribbean. Other apps have received support and interest from governments, NGOs and international organizations around the world.

"This event is a unique opportunity for experts in climate and disaster resiliency to collaborate with volunteers in developing open technology that has an impact on the developing world.
